Cephalgy are one of those bands who might never be the darlings of the electro scene but their absence would somehow make the scene just that little bit poorer & the fact that this is easily their finest & most varied yet consistent album to date makes such comments even more appropriate. It's certainly a class above their previous works which tended to be slightly hit & miss. Although there's plenty of their trademark strong, solidly enjoyable & melodic EBM to be found here, including the excellent 'Koenigin' & the infectious title track, they've taken this sound one step further with more forthright guitar work adding a grittier edge throughout, even adding a light rocking feel to the otherwise chilled melodics of 'Dunkelseele' while 'Du', which features vocals from one Stefanie Thuemmel, sees them finding the perfect accessable blend while staying true to their electro roots, never wet & with no chance of selling out, this is the sound of a band at their best with a number of stand-out tracks to get your teeth into, including the old-skool flavoured duo of 'Schwarze Goettin' & 'I'll Survive' while 'Electroholie' is probably the most muscular track they've ever done as the dark melodics team up with some grinding rhythms to make for an unforgettable piece. This form also continues on the limited second disc where the muscular 'Brennen' & 'Hlfeschrei' are nicely contrasted by the excellent instrumental 'Liebe' & some decent remixes (although Shizophobia's frantic 7 minute powernoise version of 'Konigin' is probably pushing it a bit!). Again this is an album where the second disc is so good that to get the single disc version is a bit like only hearing half the story so hats off to Out Of Line for making this such good value & to the band for producing so many good tracks in the first place!!
