The American act Cyanide Regime first came to my attention via their appearance on one of the recent Interbreeding compilations (I forget which one exactly) & further investigation unearthed this self-released album. That mainman Fernando S. has enough faith in his music that he's prepared to release it himself, with all the hard work that entails, is always a good sign & what we have here is 12 tracks of thumping EBM that should appeal to fans of V2a, E-Craft & the like due to the music's strict adherence to a hard, punchy sound that benefits from some expressive sequencing (although I did think that 'Vanquisher' was going to be a cover of 'Fade To Grey' at first!) which, backed up by beats so heavy they could register on the Richter Scale gives the album a full-blooded, almost anthemic feel in parts particularly early on with 'Rosarium', "Revail' & the charmingly-titled 'Die Bitch', which does boast some imaginative vocal effects & x-rated voice samples, all making their mark. The expert production further makes the most of these qualities & puts certain albums to shame. On the minus side is the lack of variety that soon makes the album round rather samey & while this is preferable to the soundalike syndrome that afflicts so many new acts I do feel it's important that they expand their range, both stylistically & in the pallette of sounds that they use if they're to fulfill their potential but for now this is an encouraging start that EBM lovers should find well worthy of investigation.
