This is American DJ Coppertop's second non-stop 'Infactious' mix for the Infacted label, again limited to 1000 copies & it's a fine hour & a bit of music that moves through several different electro styles. One of this collection's greatest strengths is that it relies on actual songs rather than endless dance remixes, all of which are mixed so expertly into one another that you really cannot see the join. It's the synthpoppers who open proceedings & here Coppertop has a definate knack for picking each band's finest offerings, particularly in the case of the dodgy Les Anges De La Nuit while Michigan & Conetik also make their mark & I'll definately be given the Portland album another listen after being so impressed with their opener 'Sister Of Dark'. A quick look at the track list gives you a good idea of how the album moves through the different genres, although moving from the synthpop of Michigan to orange Sector's old skool EBM is a bit of a jump by anyone's standards-still, the sudden contrast is sure to make you sit up & listen, I guess! From here on in the album gets progressively harder, moving through the old skoolers with the modern EBM bands that are represented by XP8, Heimataerde & Pre-Emptive Strike 0.1 leading onto the pure dancefloor styles of Reaper, Muscle & Hate (the Nitzer Ebb tribute) & Skoyz's remix of Retractor before rounding things off with another pounding track from Soman although it's a bit of a shame that 'Delta-Pi' doesn't reach the same heights as the likes of 'Mask', being a solid albeit ultimately ordinary piece that's a bit of a let down after what has gone before but I guess it could do OK as a 'wind down' track maybe? Still, one out of 16 is excellent going by anyone's standards & the fact remains that this is pretty essential for EBM/electro parties, just whack it on & away you go, 64 minutes of non-stop dancing & whilse you're at it, you might just discover a little musical gem you'd have otherwise missed! |
