After being so disappointed with DOA's debut In The Acts Of Violence (an opinion which, I admit, puts me very much in a minority of one!) I approached this follow-up with some caution & while I still don't think they're as mind-blowing as everyone else seems to think this is a notable improvement over its predecessor, being filled to the brim with hard-hitting EBM that actually seems to evoke the album's harsh concepts. It's not that there have been any radical changes to the sound as it very much repeats the band's established formula with the small pallette of sounds making the whole album possibly a tad predictable (the Aslan Faction remix of 'Still Born Defect' points the way the band would do well to follow) & while the often clinical feel was no doubt exactly what the band intended it's when they mix this power with some sort of feeling that produces the album's highlights with 'The Crypt Injection', 'Where Angels Die' & 'Still Born Defect', where a particularly resonant bass drum sets things up quite nicely, all benefitting from a more intense & engaging mood while the way in which 'Inhuman Salvation' gradually builds from its relatively laidback opening & culminates with a mighty rhythmic barrage is also pretty satisying. Likewise 'Psycho Therapy' is a decent instrumental where some effective strings set an appropriately dark atmosphere that would have been even more effective if it weren't so short. This is an album made very much for the dancefloor & in this regard you could pick virtually any track & not go wrong & while it does get a bit samey when listened to all in one go the highlights do prove that DOA are now beginning to really show what they're made of.
