Following the success of the album 'Enjoy The Fall' this EP is aimed at increasing the dancefloor potential of messrs Spinath & Schumacher & while I wouldn't have thought any real tinkering was needed to achieve this, the extra bit of oomph that the title track is given by the remixing talents of Olaf Wallschlaeger should ensure the band's profile remains high throughout 2008. Moreover, the additional melodic elements mean the essential mood of the original is maintained, particularly on the closing 'Beta' version with the only radical changes cropping up on the 'Coeur Triste' version where it is transformed into an imaginative electronica workout with strange beats & odd effects in a manner that's interesting rather than good although it presumably achieves what was intended, as do the mixes from labelmates (for the time being) Fractured, whose mix of 'Descent' mixes an ambiently serene opening that is later embellished by some effective piano work with more imaginate rhythms & typical cut-up voice effects & Stromkern, who add a sultrily exotic edge to 'The Nightmare I Am' & is something of a surprise for those who follow the work of Ned Kirby & Co. Best of all, however, are the three unreleased tracks which are easily worth the price of entry on their own, proving to be just as good as anything that appeared on the album with 'Split Second (Undertow)' building from its initially light feel into an up-beat piece while the harder edge that, aided by some fine sequencing, graces 'Second Split (The Party Girl)' makes for an outstanding & dynamic piece that would have made the grade as an A-side in its own right (even if the phrase 'spanking the monkey' does sound a tad out of place!). Charlene April from Blind Faith & Envy adds her vocal talents to the beautifully romantic 'Kiss Or Kill', ther duet with Spinath adding some real chemistry to the track which further benefits from some authentic-sounding violin towards the end. At over 47 minutes duration, this is a good value package with a selection of good new tracks & imaginative remixes that's well worth your time & money.
