Ever since the release of Distorted Visions back in 2001, French musician Vince Pujol has been quietly beavering away, releasing a number of excellent albums seemingly with little fanfare. This unjust state of affairs might be down to the fact he's never been one of the darlings of the scene, doesn't do many (if any) gigs & has never released a real 'hit' song, opting instead for a more complex form of EBM that only reveals its true colours after a few listens & which rewards really concentrated listening. This is his 5th release & it sees him playing very much to his established strengths; indeed, some of these tracks rank among his strongest to date, in particular the ultra-infectious 'Resurrected' & the muscular 'Regarder Le Monde' proving that there's still plenty of inspiration to be had from this particular approach. Indeed there are a number of excellent tracks just waiting to be discovered here, starting off with the opening title track which kicks proceedings off in fine style with its infectious melodic blend & a gutsy & imaginative rhythmic base while the more direct 'Tinnitus' which follows, introduces the darker mood that is a constant facet of this album. This comes particularly to the fore on such tracks as 'Fallen Angel' & 'Feel The Heat' as well as the appropriately ritualistic-sounding 'Dark Ceremony' which, furthermore, is one of the excellent instrumentals which allow Vince's melodic skills the chance to shine still further, the others being 'Rusted Empires' & 'Devastation' where some fine piano work sits atop a complex melodic mesh that makes for an involved & compelling listen. What's more, the highlights are spread throughout the album which makes this one you'll want to listen to from start to finish & not just for the closing cover of 'Everything Counts' by you know who which I'm sure hardcore Moders will see either as a fitting tribute or outright blasphemy but hey ho & all that. What's most important here, though, is that this is another excellent album from a sadly (nee criminally) underrated musician. So remember that the big names aren't the only ones making excellent music so widen your horizons, indulge your curiosity & check this out pronto. Oh, & if you were one of those greedy pric...er people who were planning to rip this off illegally then the sleevenotes have a special message just for you!!
