That the album that these remixes came from, the superb Random Is Resistance, is now over 9 months old obviously didn't worry the band or their label who obviously felt there's still some mileage to be had from it &, in fairness, this is a decent release that should keep the momentum going for just a while longer (the only downside being that no new album will be arriving any time soon!). The mixes here are obviously intended to boost the band's club appeal (not that they need it but hey ho & all that) & they'll certainly do the trick in that respect although the way in which the originals mixed danceability with emotion, feeling & plain old inspiration means these reinterpretations never had a hope of matching them. Still, Ivardensphere turn 'War On Error' into an interesting enough slice of electronica if you like that sort of thing & although the Hazardous Dub of 'If You Don't Stop It' sounds perilously close to the sort of thing that blares out of black youths' cars it's no worse than SITD's take on 'First Time' which should have been a full-sounding epic but instead comes across as plodding & laboured! The real selling point here, though, is the three new tracks & while 'A Strange Kind Of Love' sounds curiously lightweight & uninvolved with some rather sterile piano work to the fore, things do look up on the lively 'All These Moments' which boasts the mix of heart, soul & danceable infectiousness that is the band's trademark (with a resemblance to 'Merging Oceans', what's more) while 'Wasted Wings' is the sort of powerful yet wistful & heart-affirming piece that can't fail to move you, it truly is music both for the head & the heart & confirms once again that in the current electro field, Rotersand have few, if any, equals.
