. Yet another German EBM band make their debut with this 12-track EP, making this a good value for money release if nothing else! Sadly, the quality of the music doesn't match the quantity in this case as the duo of Drazen & Steffen offer nothing that bears any trace of originality or a characteristic sound, it's all EBM-by numbers that's been done before & better, in most cases. Of the four original pieces on offer here, the title track does prove a reasonably diverting piece which might give the most diehard EBM lovers something to think about while some spooky overtones add a slight edge to 'Psykokiller' but, even here, there's something missing. The pacier 'Selbstmordgedanken' does give some idea of just what it is as the overly-sanitised approach lacks any sort of grit or any sense of drama. Perhaps even more damning is the fact that two of the remixes provide the imaginative touches that the originals lack, namely Grendel's version of the title track, which adds some imaginative effected vocals & Suicide Commando's remix, which adds a more majestic feeling of power while Acylum likewise distinguish themselves with a brutal 'terror industrial' (I suppose you'd call it) remix of 'Psykokiller'. All of these show far more imagination than Schallfaktor seem capable of & while, in the first two cases, we are talking far more experienced artists the fact remains that this EP simply doesn't have that special 'something' that allows it to stand out from the EBM crowd. It's to be hoped, of course, that they'll improve on future releases & that this will come to be seen as a false start but they've got some way to go to make that a reality &, as it stands, this is one release that's hard to get excited about.
