'Deworlded'? Is that actually a word? Well, it's Reza & Alexys' album (along with guitarist Kneill X & Andrew 'Swarf' Lowlife, who also contributed, of course) & if they say it is then I guess it must be!! Actually, this latest release sees the electronics returning to the fore in a manner that resembles a poppier version of their older works whilst maintaining the infectious qualities of their preceding eponymous album. It's the perfect fusion of infectious pop, mechanical electronics & minimalist arrangements that is given a grittier feel by Kneill's guitar work throughout &, in the case of both 'Feline Fantasy' & 'Gone', a cool, sassy feel by Alexys' vocals, which have rarely sounded better than they do here while 'Anticulture' is slightly reminiscent of Depeche Mode's World In My Eyes, proving a similar mix of dark melodic pop with an industrial edge. For the most part, though, it's a pretty safe bet that if you loved the preceding single 'Repeat & Follow', the inclusion of which proves that it's lost none of its vibrancy or infectious qualities, then you'll find much to enjoy on such tracks as the punchy 'Feed' and 'Round And Round' which is an intriguing mix of Alexy's spoken, verging-on-rap vocals & old-skool EBM sequencing while the mid-paced 'Fallout' proves its worth with some dirty effects that add extra muscle to the beefy rhythms, again proving that the mix of good songwriting & robust electronics is a hard-to-beat combination, a combination that also contributes towards making 'Capture' the excellent closer that it is; a mix of bittersweet, melancholic symphonic strings & slow rhythms with added guitar colouring for good measure that not only ends the album on an appropriately epic note but, by being the most emotive track they've ever done, proves that in terms of musical expression, they're always pushing their boundaries, never content to rest on their laurels & that, of course, can only be a good thing; another recommended album from electro music's no.1 mr & mrs!!
