Giving us a taster of things to come in the Spring of this year (almost there), Concept 7 have given us this 3 track e.p. The sound is good, and if youve not come across Concept 7 before (despite the fact they have 3 albums under their belt already), this is a good introduction to the band. This is solid Industrial music, neatly overlaid with a techno-esque beat, that manages to round off the underlying sound, and create what I would call, a thinking mans Industrial music. There are no harsh vocals, or brain crashing beats this music has been crafted by a band that have taken pride in their work, and spent time getting it right. This will not offend, but in turn, it will not electrify. Whilst the music is well put together, the three tracks on offer here, Functional Concrete, Subversion, and Corporation Tank will not make you bolt upright the instant you hear them youll have to put in some serious listening time if you want to get the most out of them. But that said, if youre willing to make the effort, then the music will delight. For me the tracks all seemed a bit too similar in their delivery, and if youd not caught the break between tracks, it might be difficult to tell where one track ended and another started. Impressively though, for me, the opening track, Functional Concrete has the most impact. A crushing beat (chugging guitars, nicely packaged with some short and precise vocals) leads the charge on this track. I hope we can hear more of this type of music on the forthcoming album. Sadly though, the following two tracks fail to ignite my senses. But thats not to say they are bad tracks, just not as impressive as the opening track. Im looking forward to the album, and I hope the band send us a copy to review, because Id like to see how a full album works rather than just an ep. Heres hoping chaps! |
