Something must have been wrong with my stereo when I first listened to this EP, as I hated it! The sound was unbalanced of off key. Looks like I had a dodgy speaker connection, because I’m listening to this now, and I love it!
Five tracks adorn this EP – three are mixes of the title track.
What can I say, the sound can best be described as a hard dance Industrial mix, laced with electricity and angst, and a twist of Dub to go along for good measure. There are some distorted vocals in the background too, and while it does lend itself to a disjointed sound, this fusion really works.
While there are three mixes of the title track (‘No Blind Runner’), each one is different enough to stand on it’s own two feet. The opening mix has a heavy dub vibe running through it; while the second version, the Radio Edit, has an almost rubberised electronic fell to it. Driving bass beats, mellowed out enough not to make them frantic, give this version a life of it’s own. Good enough to fill any dance floor, and after a few listens make this track very accessible.
Following this is the ‘mutant disco mix’ – not to dissimilar from the radio edit that precedes it, but a full minute longer, and less activity (in the vocal department) than its predecessor.
The track ‘Extremeviolation’ is definitely more drum & bass than Industrial but has a clinical electronic sound to it that allows this track to present itself in a well structured and crafted manner.
Finally we have ‘Stratastatedub’ – a dub edit, which is very much that. Nothing to blow you away, but an intriguing audio experience with it’s multiple layers, scarily crafted in a simple way.
Is that it? We want more! Okay, this style of music has a very tenuous link to the ‘Industrial’ genre, but it’s good stuff none the less. We like it, and very much recommend it.
