Describing their music as "A Molotov Cocktail of Metal, electronics & Attitude", Kreuzdammer are a 5-piece UK band consisting of who name Rammstein, NIN, KMFDM & Ministry among their influences. What we've got here is three tracks of pretty shit-hot industrial metal with just a touch of electronica for good measure & one interesting if not brilliant remix. They've already made a name for themselves on the UK live circuit & this EP proves they've got what it takes in the studio as well as the grinding guitars & harsh vocals that are the focal point of "Walking Wounded" are counterpointed by soaring synth backing while the chorus has a strong anthemic feel that should provoke plenty of air punching among their fans. "Device" is even better, with steamroller rhythms & chunky guitar riffs, really motoring along with some scorching synth soloing being the icing on the cake of this jaunty, surging piece while, upping the tempo still further, "Break Or Die" has a manic intensity that will give any psychobilly fans something to get their teeth into, being tempered only slightly by the overall darker mood before the 'Living Dead' remix of "Device" closes proceedings on a more experimental & initially slightly repetitive note with the computerised 'Ein Zwei, Drei Vier' count-in (first time I've heard that on a non-electro track!) heralding the vocals. It's probably less successful than the others tracks but at least it's something different, providing a decent ending to a fine EP that all nu-metal & industrial fans will do well to check out pronto. |
