If, like me, you hate wasps then the cover of this latest EP from X-fusion mainman Jan Lehmkamper's sideproject will do you no favours at all although it's good to see the vicious little Darth Vader-faced bastard has snuffed it on the inside cover, ha ha ha & good bloody riddance, I say!! On a more serious note, this is a pretty uncompromising hardfloor dose so if you enjoy bands such as Soman & the like then this should do you just right. There is a greater variety of tempi than I was expecting (the slower "Cocaine", for example, came as something of a surprise) & I'm sure the 13 tracks (7 originals & 6 remixes) will have a massive dancefloor appeal & DJs worldwide will find it an indispensible tool to whip up the crowd but, once taken out of this environment & listened to at home, there simply isn't enough going on to keep me interested or to provide an absorbing listen. The only tracks that come close to this are the remixes from Heimataerde, who give the title track the once over in their unmistakeable style & Dioxyde, who, true to form, turn "My Time" into a dead ringer for Suicide Commando. Implant, who seem to get everywhere, close the disc with a slightly disjointed remix of "Tinnitus" itself, keeping the harshness of the original although their typically offbeat touches don't really hit the spot in the manner they have proved capable of doing in the past. This is thus another let-down on a disc which isn't likely to get many repeat listenings from me although this is my personal opinion & in no way undermines the quality of Lehmkamper's work. |
