This is an appropriately titled album if there ever was one. And the front cover, all red and black and white, looks like a Britannia wearing a surgical mask, wondering if there really is any saving the patient? So if you're one of the many in the UK just waiting for the shitty bronze handshake, or indeed if you are already bored of watching Jeremy Kyle, this might kick you into doing something productive like starting a revolution or storming the Bastille. It's energy-charged power-punk performed by two grrrls and two guys, starting with "Blood On My Blue Jeans". It's not that time of the month is it? Or is it the result of altercation carnage? Who knows?
"Bow To The People" will give you life force – enough to say 'gawdammit' to the deluded boss you used to work for, and say 'hello' to a more clarified vision of things. 'Kicking the life force/yeah we want it', yeehaw. "I Was Born The Year Punk Died", yes and so was I. 1978? Yes, the children of the Thatcher generation are still fighting the stigma. Lyrically, Eyelash are very hot; musically, hmm, OK. But it all comes together on "Put Your Faith In Me", which has the recipe sussed – punchy, attitude-driven drums and instruments, lyrics that fit the beats. It's good, anyway.
Another cracker full of truisms is "Love Dies", a lively lament for those drunken crazy teenage years (yes, you can still act like a teenager at any age) and how it does actually kill romance dead in the bed. Hmmmm...
But mellowness abounds with "White Trash (Poppy's Song)", a lush ballad with pianos, strings and a slight country tinge. Emmylou Harris would be proud. And it all ends up with a shiny gift in the form of "Sleeping Alone". 'There's certain things a girl/boy doesn't need to know/Were you sleeping alone?' No, we don't want or need to know. Not if you prize your most precious possessions that is. And we're not talking about the TV or the Hi-Fi either.
