I allow Duran Duran's Simon Le Bon to be my guide, in everything apart from boats. Levelload come with his recommendation, though his suggestion that 'they stick it right up there!' is ambiguous at best. In the past I've suspected that bands endorsed by Duran Duran have been chosen because of their image as much as their music. Levelload are hardly a jeans-and-t-shirt band. They are a girl and boy duo, with Mariko taking care of bass and vocals while Tony takes care of guitar.

"HND in RNR" is just under three minutes of furious, punk energy. It's curious that the band have chosen to study a Higher National Diploma in Rock and Roll. They seem in have paid attention in their lectures because their songs are fast, furious and fizzy. B-side "Palookaville" lacks the melodic immediacy of the first song. It sounds distinctly low-fi, which is no doubt a deliberate stylistic choice.

I'm not sure how well Levelload would work over the duration of an album, but they are effective in short sharp bursts. Simon Le Bon has convinced me about Levelload, but he'll still not get be aboard Drum.
