Ahhh, an unself-consciously gruesome name for a hard rock band never fails to bring a smile to my face. It's almost sweet and naive, somehow. It's over 30 years since the likes of Ozzy Osbourne and Alice Cooper, but here we are in 2008 with Trigger the Bloodshed's debut single Laceration. And here it is, in its full, butchering frenzy. Whhhooaaa, it's a lot of noise, definitely. It's like a vacuum cleaner with something stuck in it, and it really is suffering. Forget lyrics, they thought. Forget the tune. We don't care. We'll just make a lot of noise, get up on stage, thanks for your five quid, let's go home.
There is definitely some characteristic 'grawking' here too (a new term coined), with atonal screeching over the top. I fear for the bands vocal chords you can get ulcers and gawd knows what else on them by doing that. Look what happened to Rod Stewart that took a lot of operations to sort out.
More painful grawking on 'Lovers' too and the drums sound like they've been sped up about 500 times. Unless the drummer's just swallowed a whole packet of Pro Plus. Rock 'n' roll! "Retribution" brings more of the same, in fact, I don't know why they even bothered separating the sound and calling it different names. They should have just had one long track, and saved the producer the effort.
Yes, you've guessed it dear reader, I don't like it. But there's not much here really to like unless you enjoy headbanging, cheap speed, drinking economy cider, economy lager, and getting tinnitus. Whatever turns you on!
