This is one band that seems to have escaped most people's attention (in the UK at least) but if you're a fan of the 'future pop' sound then you'll definately enjoy what this German duo have to offer. This album, their second, is over a year old now (there has been another since which is just as good, proving that this is one act that's got what it takes) &, thanks to the high standard of songwriting that is obvious throughout, deserves to be heard far & wide. While vocalist untidyNick initially seems to come off the never-ending European vocalist conveyor belt, the band's habit of harmonising on certain choruses means that, given time, they may gain the kind of immediately recognisable style that is the hallmark of the genre's leading practioners. As it is, his nicely melodic style gives the music an extra human edge, starting on the 7-minute opener 'Serenade Of Death' which is actually a lot less doomladen than the title might suggest, starting in a very atmospheric manner with deep bass chords, choir sounds & sustained guitar setting the scene nicely for the lively, infectious & ultimately triumphant track that it later becomes. Indeed the first third of the album delivers one excellent track after another with 'Escape' again building from a serene opening into a dynamic number while a harder edge chjaracterises both 'Pretend' & 'Regret' as well as the later 'Forget' (the music is far more memorable than most of the titles, it must be said!). The fine melodics that grace the album are another important factor, proving their worth on the slower tracks 'Life' & the funky 'Frei', which makes the album just that little more varied, as well as the instrumental 'Oil & Water' which brings tidyJ.P's melodics very much to the fore & proves that this duo have got it all. Certainly, they prove that, in the right hands, the more accessable end of EBM (of Future Pop, however you wish to label it) has still got plenty to offer & if you enjoy bands such as Spektralized & Colony 5, then you should definately give Legacy Of Music a try.
